Central Maine Team Penning Association (CMTPA) was established on November 26, 1995, by a group of equestrians dedicated to increasing the popularity of this challenging and fast-growing sport. Membership and participation continue to grow, with membership from Eliot to Houlton and Eastport to Andover. The club holds numerous competitions at The OK Corral, in Leeds, Maine, as well as competitions at the Skowhegan Fair, Farmington Fair, and Windsor Fair. Team penning often draws a big crowd at the fairs, with the bleachers packed and spectators standing at the rail watching. Central Maine Team Penning has drawn riders from Vermont, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Canada, Connecticut, New Hampshire, New York, and of course, Maine. Due to increased popularity, CMTPA now holds several United States Team Penning Association affiliated events each season, and has also added Ranch Sorting events to the schedule.
